PESHAWAR: The Awami National Party (ANP) is not satisfied with the military operation in South Waziristan as most of the terrorists are fleeing the Mehsud area to other parts of the region, ANP Central Information Secretary Senator Zahid Khan said on Sunday.
Addressing a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club, Zahid demanded that US drone strikes in Waziristan must stop immediately. The ANP leader said confrontation among state institutions had always damaged democracy and the democratic process, adding he appreciated the cautious approach of the Pakistan People’s Party leadership in the situation.
He said that problems of the people would not be solved if the judiciary was not free, adding that he hoped all institutions would perform their duties without overstepping their limit. Zahid said the government would continue fighting terrorists and eliminate them from the country, adding the Supreme Court should not exceed its powers and the SC monitoring cell should not be confined to monitoring cases related to the National Reconciliation Ordinance but should also oversee public cases.
The ANP leader said the country needed an accountability process, adding a permanent institution should be established in this regard.
